Hot Water Pipe Insulation

Adding hot water pipe insulation is one of the most cost effective ways to reduce your energy consumption. At a cost of around $2.00 per six foot section and its ease of installation allows for a quick return on investment.

When you visit your home center you’ll find the hot water pipe insulation in the plumbing section. When insulating interior hot water pipes utilize polyethylene  insulation which is available pre-split and in a self sealing version. You will also see a rubber insulation that is used for HVAC applications. You’ll see it on the freon lines running to your air conditioner. It’s far more expensive at a cost of approximately $4.00 per six foot length and is not the right product for insulating your hot water lines. The following table shows an actual price comparision:
